Krill oil used in ASTA396 is obtained from Antarctic krills. It contains easy-to-digest, phospolipid-linked omega-3s.However, it is not easy to derive krill oil from Antarctic krills (Euphausia superba).
It requires a high level of extraction technology and managed environment in order to extract pure krill oil removing any impurities.
Krills are cured within one hour after capture on board a ship in Antarctica where there is almost no bacteria.
It is possible in Antarctica to process materials keeping it fresh without any concern about metal contamination.

Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin is a red carotinoid found in some of seafood such as crab and shrimp. It is in the same family of molecules as beta-carotene found in carrots and lycopene found in tomatoes.
Since astaxanthin contained in krill oil is 来源于动物 and esterified, it is very easy to digest.

Phospholipid
Phospholipids is a popular nutrient following chondroitin and glucosamine.
Phospholipids, sometimes called lecitin, are a class of lipids that are a major component of all cell membranes performing an important role in linkage between cells, material transfer, signaling, etc.
Krill-origin phospholipid is mainly composed of phosphatidylcholin which is the major component of cell membranes.
ASTA396 contains over 40% abundant marine phospholipids.
When attached to omega-3s, phospholipids are much more absorbable.
Omega-3 fatty acids (unsaturated fatty acid)
Known as DHA and EPA, omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids which mainly compose cell membranes.
Though most of omega-3s are fish origin, those contained ASTA396 are extracted from crustacean shells which include abundant phospholipid type-DHA and EPA.
Though omega-6 fatty acid is an important component of cell membranes like omega-3 fatty acid, contemporary diets have excessive amounts of omega-6s. Therefore it is necessary to regulate the balance of fatty acids by taking DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids.
ASTA396 contains them at the rate of 15 omega-3 fatty acids: 5 omega-9 fatty acids: 1 omega-6 fatty acids.
It includes abundant omega-3 fatty acids.
