Phellinus linteus is a fungus in Hymenochaetaceae family which naturally grows on mulberry trees. In China, it is called “Song Gen” and has been used as a medicinal mushroom for centuries.It is widely distributed in Japan, South East Asia, Australia and North America. As it is difficult to collect the mushroom in the nature, and also to cultivate and culture them, it was referred to as a rare mushroom for a long time.
What is Phellinus linteus mycelia, PL2/PL5?
Since the production technology of Phellinus linteus mycelium was developed in Korea in 1990s, Korean Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology and private sectors have started committing to research on Phellinus linteus as a national project under the Ministry of Science Technology.After collecting 13 varieties of Phellinus Linteus mycelium from Japan and Korea, they succeeded in artificial culture of PL2 and PL5 which are unlikely to mutate, and finally developed a hot water extract prepared from PL2 and PL5.
The research was highly regarded and accordingly KANHOOK SHINYAKU Corporation. and prof. Yoo Ick-Dong of Korean Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology won so called Korean Nobel Prize, The Chazan Prize in 1998.
